My mother has always been very concerned about my dishes.  When she comes over to visit, it isn’t the white gloves for the dust on top of the door frames that she brings.  Instead she brings over special cream meant to get the marks off the plates left by the silverware.  And then she asks me if I have used it yet.  Every.  Single.  Week.  She may be the original BLUNTmom.

I have spent many hours explaining to her that there is no point to polishing up my dishes because my dishwasher was just going to add rust marks every time I wash them.  And I was far too busy re-washing the cups on the upper rack that had the food from the bottom blasted on.  I didn’t need cream.  I needed a chisel.  Not to mention that I was considering smashing all of my dishes since I could never fit a full load of plates into the dishwasher.  We could eat lunch OR dinner.  And don’t dare serve salad on side plates or I was going to be running multiple loads.  Let’s not even discuss the silverware and its love of spooning.  Throwing out the dishes and eating off of paper plates with our hands seemed like the only solution.

But getting a new dishwasher seemed like a better one.

We got the Frigidaire Gallery OrbitClean Dishwasher, which boasts One Wash, One Dry, One Time.  Sounds so much better than what must have been the slogan of our last one – Make Dirtier, Don’t Dry at All, And Repeat.

This was me when it arrived.  I was just a little bit excited.  Can you tell?

After it was hooked up it was time to take it for a test drive.  I actually had trouble finding enough dirty dishes to fill the bottom rack!  The tines are a lot closer together than in the old dishwasher, so I can fit way more plates in.  Even my largest plates fit without a problem thanks to an adjustable upper rack and a taller inside cavity.  With the old one my larger dinner plates always tipped over, and couldn’t go in the middle without catching on the rack above.

The dishwasher is so quiet – which may be a con because it doesn’t drown out the yelling and the whining – I barely know it’s on.  Luckily there is a green light that shines on the floor when the load is done, and that makes me feel just a little bit more like a Jetson, which really is my major goal in life.

The best part is that the dishes come out clean.  No more sorting through cutlery to see what needs a second wash.  No more embarrassment of handing guests a dirty dish that I thought was clean.  Even my mom is out of the job of head dish inspector.  She wants to buy me new dishes to celebrate.  Now I just have to worry that she is going to have all this extra time to inspect my dusting!
