I don’t know what I was expecting when I visited Alberta on a cross-country trip through Canada. Perhaps a slightly wilder version of Colorado, with better beer?

It was definitely wilder, and vaster, more picturesque and more intense than I could ever have imagined. This western Canada province probably doesn’t strike many as much more than a skiing destination. But it really does have it all.

The flat prairies of the east build to the towering Rocky Mountains in the west. Lovers of nature will find miles of trails full of awe-inspiring vistas and abundant animal life. The glacier national parks and glacier-fed lakes are jaw-droppingly beautiful. It’s amazing that they are still so pristine and wild. And the Badlands in Alberta are not to be missed, especially for the little dinosaur lovers in your household!

And those in search of different, two-legged wildlife will find the metropolises of Edmonton and Calgary overflowing with nightclubs, museums, and music.

One thing’s for sure: visiting Alberta promises an experience like no other. You’ll have to make a second trip just to see it all! And maybe a third. And fourth…
