You know how they say: “Guinness is good for you?” It’s true. Guinness really is good for you. But do you know what is also good for you? Chocolate. So, it should be really a matter of logic and deduction to figure out that the best thing for you must be a combination of Guinness and chocolate. Specifically, chocolate Guinness Cupcakes.

I am not sure about you, but when breastfeeding, I find myself craving beer. Not just any beer. Dark, strong, wonderful beer. But then, of course, I must refrain because babies really are too little to drink beer, even if it’s with breast milk.

Fortunately, there is a brilliant solution: I use Guinness to make cupcakes. You will be surprised. These are rich and dark and malty-chocolate-y, not too sweet, and everyone loves them. Don’t be afraid of the amount of fat used in this recipe. I can assure you it’s for a good cause. It all comes together to create these little wonders.

And then, there is the frosting. Can you guess what’s in the frosting? You’re right, more Guinness! The frosting tastes a little bitter due to the beer, but it is also wonderful and a perfect addition to the rich cupcakes. It also has a beautiful beige colour to go with the dark of the chocolate.

The cupcakes recipe requires cooking the Guinness in a pan while the frosting calls for uncooked Guinness. If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, you can cook the Guinness needed to make the frosting together with the Guinness needed for the cupcakes, then the alcohol will evaporate and they will be safe for you to enjoy in their glamorous entirety.
