Surviving life as a mother of a teenage girl is not for the weak. Most days I feel like a robot, repeating the same worn-out phrases over and over, only to be met with dramatic sighs and eye rolls. It seems she spends most of her free time locked in her room whispering with friends or holding her phone inches from her face, lost in her own world.

She turned 13 at the end of the summer and has changed so much in the last year. She has gone from my low-key, sweatshirt-loving tomboy into a hair straightening, product-loving girly-girl seemingly overnight. My husband casually asked me in the car the other day how many more years she has until we apply for colleges, and I burst into tears. Seriously, what was he thinking? I am desperate for time to stop. Or at the very least to slow down a little bit so I can come to terms with how quickly she seems to be slipping away. Except when she talks back. Then time can keep right on marching.

I am guaranteed to usually get her attention if I mention a couple of key words: Target, make-up, chocolate or shopping. So, when I was presented with the opportunity to partner with Johnson and Johnson, who teamed up with Target for their 2017 Neutrogena, AVEENO and Clean & Clear brand launches, I knew the stars were aligning. It was the end of the quarter for my daughter, so she had a Friday off school and has just finished a week’s worth of exams. This meant I was coming off a week of listening to, “MOTHER, my life is SO HARD. No one has EVER had to study this much EVER in the history of time.”

Have I mentioned she also has a flair for the dramatic? Needless to say, we were both in need of some downtime and much needed stress relief.

We headed to our local Target (our home away from home) and picked out our favorite products to test out. I headed straight for the Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Regenerating Cream because I have three kids and blame them for the state of my face. Mostly I blame my 13 year-old daughter, but the other two have added their fair share of fine lines. My daughter grabbed the Clean & Clear Acne Triple Clear Bubble Foam Cleanser and the Aveeno Positively Radiant 60 Second In-Shower Facial. We popped over to the make-up aisle and I threw the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Liquid Makeup Nude concealer in the cart and we were on our way in less than ten minutes.

We had two solid hours of girl time ahead of us and we were on a mission.

We got home, popped some popcorn, turned on our favorite music and made our way to the bathroom. We ripped open the packaging, cracked open the top of one of bottles, inhaled and let out an identical euphoric sigh. Then we burst into a fit of laughter. What is it about the smell of new product?

We washed our faces with the Clean and Clear Bubble Foam Cleanser. It smells of aloe and mint, is gentle enough to use every day, and feels amazing. Then she dried hands and said, “Here. You should probably try the wrinkle cream.” Gee thanks, kid. But I have to say, after putting it on, I’m wondering if they sell this stuff in bucket-size. The lotion has retinol, the #1 anti-aging ingredient, which targets wrinkles with no irritation.

The Hydro Boost concealer is light-weight and doesn’t settle into my lines, and 24 hour moisturizing is great this time of year. The coverage also managed to hide the dark circles under my eyes (those I blame entirely on my five year-old and his 6 a.m. demands for apple juice).

My daughter has loved the Aveeno Positively Radiant 60 Second In-Shower Facial. This is a quick facial you can do in the shower 1-2 times a week. The Active Naturals Total Soy Complex and Lemon Peel Extract does a great job giving dull looking skin a boost and evening out skin tone. It’s also gentle enough to use on her sensitive teenage skin.

I’m so thankful to Johnson and Johnson for the opportunity to have a little skincare adventure with my daughter. It was a welcome break from the chaos of our daily life and gave us a chance to have some much needed bonding time and discover some great new products in the process. For us, it was time and money very well spent.

We were thrilled to see that from now through the end of March, Target is offering some in-store and Cartwheel promotions on skincare essentials from Neutrogena, Aveeno and Clean & Clear. We call looking great and saving money at the same time a win-win!
