Raw, real and full of emotion. Blogging online can be all of these things.

When you choose to write on the internet, it is comparable to being naked. Writing down your words is like stripping. And if you get paid to do it, it’s EXACTLY like stripping.

I strip…er…blog (or try to) at least 3 times a week. It keeps my mind sharp and ready for what lies ahead. It’s also my outlet for when my kids are walking a-bombs of destruction.

Yet once I get those words down on the screen and hit submit there are no take-backs. Good or bad, I’m responsible for those actions. It could be the worse mistake I ever make once I hit enter.

It could ruin me.

Right now, I do get paid to submit content and with that comes knowing that every word is the bread and butter that feeds me. The more interesting, the more dramatic and pot-stirring it is, the more it’s read, shared and exposed to the masses.

Beautiful writing is appreciated. Diva writing gets the internet juices flowing. And then the dollars get shoved in my T-back.

So, how can a blogger remain true to themselves and still become successful? First, tease without showing off the girls. You can be an earthquake without being a national disaster. Integrity goes a long way even if it feels as though you creating content that’s too tame.

Storytelling is a huge part of blogging. Like your body tells a story when you are angry, emotional or blissful, writing a blog can bring your readers to the highs and lows.

I’m not saying you can’t expose the goods but remember that nakedness on the internet can come back to haunt you.

  2. I like to think of my style of blogging as less “stripping” and more “running around and pretending to be a monkey, complete with poo throwing, while spectators look on with moues of distaste.” So your words about the Internet coming back to haunt one really resonate 🙂
